I started out watching some their own original programming, seeing if Netflix had anything to worry about. The quick answer: No. I am sure they will eventually come out with something on the level of "Orange is the New Black" or "House of Cards". As of now though, the shows were not even close.
So, Amazon did the next best thing: they started locking up exclusive content, such as stuff from HBO... and the BBC.... That had to make Netflix do a double take....When I can sit down to binge-watch 3 seasons of 'Deadwood' or even 'The Sopranos'... I won't have ANY time to pop back over to Netflix and watch whatever they have on this month.... Currently, I am catching up on 'Band of Brothers' a 10 part miniseries about WWII in Europe... Spielberg and Hanks doin' their thang.
But here's what made me even consider Amazon as a serious player: They locked up "Orphan Black", the riveting sci-fi BBC series all to themselves.... This show is a game-changer for their viewership.. There is no Nielson data to back me up, but I am sure the Amazon servers were likely needing a few new cooling fans turned on to keep up with the demand... Wonderfully enthralling show featuring a one-of-a-kind actress in Tatiana Maslany, who plays 5 various characters..SIMULTANEOUSLY. I can't tell you anything about the show...You just sit down for an hour, and you'll understand...
The sheer volume of programming hiding away on Amazon's shelves will eventually make me cancel Netflix for a month or two, as I will be wasting my money..... 10 years with Netflix... I love them, and I WILL be back... but I just can't be in 2 programs at the same time.
2018 UPDATE: Yes I Can. That was crazy talk.. the deleting NFLX or Amazon. Carry on. Amazon caught up, with shows like Sneaky Pete, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
